Stab Resistant T-Shirts

Yomiuri: New T-shirts offer protection against knives
A uniform manufacturer in Chuo Ward, Osaka, has developed a T-shirt intended to provide protection against knives, following an increasing number of malicious crimes that have victimized children and late-night convenience store clerks. The Nihon Uni company used slightly thick fibers that are more than three times as strong as cotton for the T-shirt. However, the product does not look like typical protective clothing. The strength of the T-shirt made from ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene fiber is equal to that of aramid fiber used in body armor. But the T-shirt is machine-washable because it is lightweight. The T-shirt provides superior protection from slashing attacks, but its mesh fabric can be punctured by a sharp point. The short-sleeved version of the T-shirt costs 19,000-52,000 yen, while the long-sleeved variety ranges from 22,000-59,000 yen. The products will go on sale in June through distributors.

Troops/Police only get their full equipment when it happens to be cost effective, I saw this thing on Discovery channel one day which showed spider threads are so tough it is possible to make bullet proof vests from them but it would have been a very time consuming and expensive project so nobody took up the scientists offer.

22,000-59,000 yen? I don't know bout that one. At least say it's Armani or Gucci and make it stylish AND protective.

The Thai police forces could not afford to outfit enough of their officers with expensive western made bullet proof vests from Kevlar so they went with local materials. They came up with a silk weaving method that was used to make bullet proof vests that met the standards of other expensive vests at a fraction of the costs.

That's what they claim Pete, but could you stand up in front of a .357 mag wearing a silk weaved vest and dare the MF to pull the trigger, without a significant rise in the pucker factor?

I couldn't. My asshole would be biting washers outta me BVDs!

I don't think I would volunteer to test one of those. Getting hit with a .357 is gonna cause some damage whether you have kevlar or Thai silk protection.

The best Thai silk protection is holding one of their famous trannies in a designer dress, up in front of you.
