Rick Roufus, left, gets pushed by Taro Akebono, of Japan, during the third round of the K-1 Battle of Bellagio III, in Las Vegas, Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004. Roufus won the fight by a unanimous decision. Akebono was deducted a point twice during the fight for pushing.

He should hang it up... I mean after a while the novelty is going to wear off.. I mean if he won it would be one thing.. but he's continually losing...

Yeah, what a joke Akebono has become.
He should just have stayed in the sumo world and been the legend instead of showing the world he does not have what it takes in the K-1 ring.
There again, perhaps he intends to be the Haru Urara of the K-1 world.

Wait, it's Akebono . . . he's got a plan, right, right. . . .?

Maybe after the world is sure he is a joke, in the 5th round when he's getting beat and the crowd starts booing he'll break out in some Hawaiian war-dance and walk around the ring in a trance deafeating have the K-1 card.

Or Maybe he just sucks.

I wonder if she has breast fed him? She is supposed to be his mother I think.

I wonder who the Hell his agent is? Maybe he's getting paid extra by someone with a serious yokozuna-era grudge against Akebono to make certain all future roles only make him a laughingstock. We'll know if that's the case if/when "Two former sumotori and a cup" gets released in 2009.

K-1 combines elements of kickboxing, karate, taekwondo and other martial arts, with 80 percent of fights ending in knockout.

Well, there's the problem right there. K-1 doesn't have any aspect of throwing and pushing out of the ring. Sumo matches last what... only 30 seconds or so max.

Like I have always said before, K-1 has become the WWF equivalent and really lost the appeal that it once had.

Perhaps Akebono should have his photo removed from the Yokozuna hall of fame above the Dohyo! He certainly deserves it with his obvious lack of pride, and a dummy in his gob!

I guess his "gyara" or payment checks for each fight is more than I will get paid in my lifetime but you are right in that he has lost all of his pride doing so.

In all fairness, I think we should note the fact that Chad's backers dropped him while he was Yokozuna. The backers are the ones that directly arrange to provide the envelopes stuffed with dust given to the winner after the match. Also, they provide the collateral and/or even the loans that a retiring sumoka needs to purchase his own stable (we're taking Oku's here).

A sumoka without a backer(s) is like a fish without water, or some people without goats. You just wither up and blow away.

I can't think of many jobs for big fat guys in their early thirties where former sumoka on the job application is going to mean much.

Since he couldn't really continue in Sumo without a stable, what's he gonna do. A guy's gotta eat and in his case, gotta eat a lot.

Chad's wife is a full time school teacher, but that probably doesn't pay for much more than his breakfast. So, if your choice is bushido and starvation, fine. But, K-1 and a full belly ain't too shabby.

Akebono's just another FG like the rest of us. I thought he did well here, better than most.

Having just reread your (pre edited) introduction to this board, I might add that Akebono did a lot better here than you! .
