Eternal Haiku - missed opportunity..

Postby GomiGirl » Tue May 27, 2003 6:26 pm

OMG I missed out..

Bangles announce winners of their Haiku contest.

Original Competition annoucement

All Bangles Haiku Contest entries must be composed in English, or written in Roma-Ji with an English translation.(English translations do not need to be in correct haiku form of 5,7,5 - it is only to help us understand the poem). We can not judge entries written in Japanese characters.

Contest entries can be serious or silly, but the topic must be Bangles-related.

Winners get tickets to their shows last week..

AND - wait for it!!

The Grand Prize winner will also join the Bangles ONSTAGE to read the winning poem for the audience, and receive a special present from the band!

The Grand Prize concert tickets must be for one (1) of the following venues/dates:

05/21/2003 Tokyo, Club Quattro
05/22/2003 Tokyo, Shibuya AX
05/23/2003 Tokyo, Shibuya AX
05/24/2003 Nagoya, Club Quattro
05/26/2003 Osaka, Club Quattro

I'm too old for the Bangles. I was more of a Go-Go's fan.

The only time I ever saw the Bangles live...wait, this moment deserves a haiku:

At Beatles tribute,
Bangles show up; lone voice cries,
"Play 'Manic Monday'!"

I thought the Bangles were buried in the Tomb of the One Hit Wonders.

Which one hit would they be buried under? Their number one hits "eternal flame" or "Walk like an Egyptian"? Or their songs that barely missed number one and stalled at a measley #2 "hazy shade of winter" or "manic monday"? Or another top ten hit "in your room"? Or their other top 40 hits like "be with you", "walking down your street" or "if she knew what she wants"?

Or maybe they're hiding behind their recent top 20 hit "something that you said"?

One hit wonder... I don't think so.

"Walk like an Egyptian"Image... now if that song didn't sum up the 1980's... ;)
Yet I think Run-DMC (another grade-school favorite of mine) did a much better job of impressing themselves on America's youth.

Say a-oh, way-oh, a-oh-way-oh.
Walk like an egyptian.
Walk like an egyptian.
Walk like an egyptian.

I much rather be looping on this video clip ...

King Tut
Buried in his 'jamies.
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia,
Born in Arizona...
Got a condo made of stone-a...
