Tell Us About Working With Gaijin

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Apr 18, 2008 1:53 am

The Nikkei Business website has a survey (Japanese) it would like readers to reply to. They plan to produce a feature on globalization and diversity in the workplace:

(1) Do you work with any foreigners?

(2)If yes, do you have any problems understanding each other?

(3) If yes, what are those problems?

(a) Language
(b) Values
(c) Culture and religion
(d) Nothing specifically

(4) If you do have problems, has your company enacted any measures to deal with the issue?

(5) If yes, what kind of measures?

(a) Making English the common language
(b) Meetings and training to promote shared values
(c) Personnel department works towards promoting fairness
(d) Parties and events to help understand other cultures

(6) Feel free to write any about any other problems or observations about working with foreigners.

The other questions ask the respondent to mention industry, rank and age.

Not a terrible idea and the final feature might yet be interesting but I think the structure of these questions might be called "leading the witness".

Time for an FG survey:

1. Do you work with any Japanese?

Why do I get the impression that they've already done a private survey, and selected possible answers from those results?

Just go ahead and get to the biased questions everyone wants to really know.

7. For the OLs, Have you slept with any of the foreigners at your office?

8. If so, have you recovered from the STD he gave you, slut (Noriko)?

9. For the guys, have you gotten drunk at company enkai and asked the gaijin males in the company to show you their penis yet? If no, why? If yes, describe the experience in the space below.

Ready made FG reply message below, copy, paste and fill in the blanks or select the appropriate items:

10. If you can remember what the gaijin penis looked like, please attach a drawing of "the gaijin penis". If several sheets of A3-sized paper are required, feel free to use them.:D

We have got to flood this survey with bogus responses. I can just see it now: "10% of Japanese report that the hardest part about working with foreigners is explaining to them the concept of Japan's four distinct seasons."

So if you select 3(d) does that mean you have a problem or not?
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

I think that this is an exceptionally important study because, of course, we all know that every misunderstanding in this country is between Japanese people and foreigners--Japanese people NEVER misunderstand each other.

I have ever worked with Chinese and understood that Japanese and Chinese look alike each other superficially but never mingle with each other like water and oil.
And no need to do that!!!

I know its a stupid survey and all that, but in all honesty, when I think about it, I have worked with some FUCKING WACKO FREAK ASS GAIJIN over the years. Lets face it, if you wanted to do research on a range of social, mental, and moral degenerates from a range of countries, all you would have to do is study the FG community in Japan.
Me included.

i think it's an interesting idea and ballsy...certainly they're opening up themselves to criticism.
that said, generalizing ('foreigners'?!) like this makes the survey pretty much value-less. it's just gonna be a pissing match.
they should have said, 'please tell us why you're so great (cuz you're a victim and no one understands you)'.
