Yoko Hatanaka broke into the pop world in 1978 with "Letter From Canada", a duet with Masaaki Hirao who ran the music school she attended. It was a big hit and scored her an appearance on NHK's year-end Kohaku show. She then went solo but also turned her hand to acting, featuring in some of film studio Nikkatsu's roman poruno. One of her best known songs is also the title of her second film in 1980: "後から前から" (Ushiro Kara, Mae Kara). When Takenaka repeatedly sings "Ushiro kara, mae kara...doozo..." it really can only mean "You can take me from the front or take me from behind". Of course, she eventually adds "...itsudemo dakishimite ii no" - "...in your arms whenever" which puts a more innocent spin on the lyrics but no-one's really left in two minds. Certainly not this the author of this YouTube video .

"Letter from Canada"

Can a song title get any more dasai than that without causing a black hole to spontaneously appear and swallow the planet?
"If there's a river, we'll dam it, and if there's a tree, we'll ram it - 'cause we Japanese are talkin' progress!"
