Death In Soapland

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Apr 28, 2008 5:37 am

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Three people have died in a fire at Edo Castle soapland in Sapporo's Susukino entertainment district. Emergency services received a call from someone at the club shortly after midnight on Sunday reporting that there was smoke. Firemen who went to the scene found two young women and one man unconscious and with burns on the fourth floor at the top of the building. They were taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards. The fire was put out around 1:00am and it looks to have started on the third floor. The club, which has around 5 or 6 staff, usually closes at midnight. Local police say it has been in business for over 30 years.

Sounds like that guy died happy but since no goats were involved... no worry.

They sure did their best trying to save that building. Another article mentions they sent 20 fire trucks/responder vehicles to the scene! The three dead were found in the same room on the 4th floor. At least we know the guy died happy.

Mainichi: Brothel blaze victims trapped by power outage
Three people killed in a brothel fire here early Monday appear to have been trapped on the top floor of the building after a power outage prevented them from fleeing, police said. Killed in the fire at the Edojo soapland brothel in Sapporo's Susukino entertainment district were a 36-year-old man from Sumida-ku, Tokyo, and two Sapporo women aged 24 and 20. It appears the three were killed by carbon monoxide inhalation, but an autopsy is being carried out on one of the women to determine the precise cause of her demise...Police said the man killed in the fire had been visiting Sapporo on vacation and went to the brothel with three friends from work. The two women killed in the blaze worked at the soapland. Police said a brothel worker noticed flames coming out of a third floor storeroom on the four-floor building shortly after midnight Monday and called the fire department. Almost immediately after, a circuit breaker in the building was tripped, shutting the electricity off and sending Endojo into total darkness, one employee said. The storeroom contained towels, toothbrushes and a refrigerator, but apparently no fire, and investigators believe an electrical fault could have caused the blaze. At the time the blaze broke out, there were 11 people inside the brothel, including the three on the fourth floor who died. The brothel boss was on the first floor, a female employee on the second floor and three men and three women in rooms on the third floor. All those on the lower three floors of the brothel escaped from the fire unharmed...

Seeing as the G-man is not from Hokkaido, and is well past the ripe old age of 36, we can all breath a sigh of relief. He must have got out alive.
God Bless..

Hey, that's my old stomping grounds. I used to hit Susukino Zerobanchi when it really rocked.

This sounds pretty crappy. Seems the owner and employee booked it out of there and left their customers on the upper floors to die.

would you expect less from somebody whose chosen profession is to prey off of human weakness?

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Well, the two girls were working there so only one of the three was a customer. That doesn't make it better but the fire looks like it took hold quickly. If it started on the third floor then there may not have been much of a chance for anyone to get up to the fourth floor. If they couldn't get up then it also helps explain why the three couldn't get down. One initial autopsy has pointed towards smoke inhalation as cause of death and that is probably true of the other two so flames were not the main problem. Reports say that there was particularly heavy fire damage near a fridge in a storeroom and faulty wiring is suspected to be the cause of the accident. There were heat sensors in the building which went off but it looks like no-one heard them. Fire investigators believe that they may not have been up to specification so there is a possibility that someone will be charged with professional negligence resulting in death.
