Exchanging 'other' currencies

Postby Cyka UchuuJin » Wed May 14, 2008 1:57 pm

Am just back from Dubai and unfortunately didn't have time to exchange my dirhams on the way out. now i'm just back from MUFJ bank and Citibank, both who have said they don't change them.

anyone know of a bank in osaka/kansai that exchanges 'other' currencies?

When I was in Kobe, Tokyo Mitsubishi ginko usually bought a lot of the "other" currencies. Most other banks wouldn't though.

That, and what Hamaki said....
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

Tokyo Mitsubishi was formed from a merger of Bank of Tokyo and Mitsubishi Bank in 1996 (UFJ was a later addition to the group in 2006 when it became MUFG). Bank of Tokyo was the première foreign exchange bank in Japan with roots back to 1880. At one time, it was the only bank with a licence to deal in foreign currency transactions. As such, it was unlike the other city banks although it did have a branch network to take deposits. That Kobe branch was probably an old BoT branch which could deal with legacy FOREX business that a standard Mitsubishi-Tokyo UFJ branch today wouldn't be able to handle.

thanks for the replies. it was a UFJ that i went to today and they said no. the embassy idea is a great one, will try that tomorrow. otherwise, i'm going to have to wait til the boyfriend arrives and can take them back out for me.

but really, tokyo is supposed to be one of the financial capitals of the world. and there's only about 10 currencies that are changable here.
