Japanese Lingerie Inspiration

The Triumph Inspiration Award international final will be held this July in Beijing. Prior to that, a series of national competitions is being held to determine the contestants. The Japan round took place yesterday in Shibuya as ten lingerie designs - narrowed down from 677 entrants - went on show. The eventual winner was Midori Matsuo's "Under Skin" and her design will now go on sale in Japan. If she goes on to win in China, she will earn a global sales deal.

...Midori Matsuo, 20, Japan, convinced the judging panel to be the winner of the Triumph Inspiration Award '08 with the design "Under Skin" and will pocket not only a cash prize of Euro 15,000 but also a career boosting limited edition of the winning piece. Midori Matsuo, 20, Japan, will see the showpiece adapted and interpreted by the Triumph design team, leading to series production of the set and would be sold in selected Triumph stores worldwide...

HA!! Thanks Chuck. I had remembered this, but couldn't remember if it was a comedy sketch from a movie or a commercial from HBO. Didn't rememeber it as a Wendy's commercial.

Reuters: Cabbage reborn as fresh green Japanese lingerie
It isn't exactly the most exciting of vegetables, but the humble cabbage has inspired a budding Japanese lingerie designer and won her the chance to showcase her creations on the world stage. Tokyo fashion design student Sachino Kurozu's multi-layered underwear in a fresh green, inspired by a sprouting cabbage, was picked as this year's winner of a Tokyo lingerie competition organized by underwear manufacturer Triumph, known for its novelty bras featuring unusual designs. Triumph's most recent promotional offering was a bra with an electronic nuptial clock for husband-hunting women. Kurozu, 20, said her design was intended to express women's "blooming beauty." She will now go on to compete at a global Triumph contest in Milan later this year. "The cabbage underwear was so cute. Many designers adapted Japanese themes, but the cabbage one was so unique and catchy," said Haruna Hirasawa, a fashion student at the show. Cabbages were not the only vegetables on offer. Another design student created underwear entitled "Onion," featuring brown frills. The winner of Triumph's Milan competition will receive a cash prize and the opportunity to adapt their design into a commercial underwear set. Last year, a Japanese student designer won the international award with her lingerie collection, "Under Skin."

It's a bit early to start putting out the "halloween lingerie". Plus some of those girls are alittle busted even without the hideous lingerie. I give them a "0"

...but being a guy, those girls are still more than do-able.

Japan bra carries messages of encouragement after disaster

(Reuters Life!) - A Japanese lingerie maker Wednesday unveiled a bra that carries messages of encouragement from overseas as the country struggles to recover from a devastating quake and tsunami that struck exactly two months ago.

The white, bustier-style garment and matching skirt by Triumph are covered with messages from 36 different countries received in the aftermath of the disaster, each accompanied by a tiny flag of the nation that sent it.

Messages ranged from simple good wishes, such as "Japan, with you 100%" from France, to expressions of admiration for Japan's strength and dignity. Others were poignant.

"Those who have already left us let us know life is so fragile, and those who are alive let us know life is so strong," said one from China.

The company, known for its concept designs, said it came up with the bra after receiving messages of support from branch companies around the world, along with relief supplies. The bra is not for sale.

"I read each message myself, and I realized that everyone around the world is sending their support," said 20-year-old Hikaru Kawai, who modeled the outfit. "So I decided that I needed to do my best as well."

Nearly 26,000 people were killed or are unaccounted for after the disaster, which triggered the world's biggest nuclear crisis since Chernobyl in 1986 -- and which a few messages couldn't resist alluding to.

"Our thoughts are with you! Future without nuclear power, for our children!" read a message from Greece.

Previous efforts from the company have included a solar-powered bra and a "Welcome to Japan" bra, which featured greetings in three different languages.

When one sees this type of so-called fashion, there are two conclusions: either the fashion designers are complete misogynists or part of an ongoing inside joke: "what the stupidest stuff we can get these models to wear and hold a show without any pointing out that it looks completely ridiculous".
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and
