America. The guy who started it was the brother-in-law of the guy who started Mister Donut. Story here. Dunkin' Donuts isn't defunct, it just doesn't have stores in Japan anymore. The Saison group operated the franchise in the 70's and then bundled it into the operations of Yoshinoya so the beef bowl chain was running the Dunkin' Donut stores. That didn't make a lot of sense and they threw in the towel in 1998.
