hey man! im not that small!

i thought of another thing i liked about japan .. it might just be because im american, but i really do like that in japan there are not as many fake smiles (but those goddamn fake nasally voices they use when helping makes up for it...) and there is no or little small talk with conbini store workers and people you dont know and dont want to know.

See, I dig on the small talk, especially with the coffee shop girls....:D I never end up getting a discount afterwards, but my frappucino gets blended, frapped, and properly pureed.

I spent a few hours at an izakaya yesterday and enjoyed the food, booze and company far more than a night out in my hometown last visit.
Anyone out there enjoying anything about this place?

I guess I just don't feel cranky enough today.

P.S. Jack, you don't need to. Submit your usual, I mean.

Just got back from taking the kids for an after dinner stroll to look at the fire flies around a little stream near our house, so I'll add them to the list...(the fireflies that is, not the kids)...

Good one KJ. I used to live in the countryside, and they were a regular summer thing. Mentioned them to a good friend in their 40s, and thought they'd agree that it's pretty nice to see fireflies every summer. Instead, I got the old "I saw the fireflies all the time when I was a kid...what's so special about them now?" routine. Apparently, once you've seen them, they lose their magic. Not so for me, but may explain why concrete is far more appreciated than cool bugs nowadays.
