Firefox 3 Released

Firefox 3 has been released. I downloaded it earlier today and am very pleased with it. Faster than 2 and some very nice feature improvements.

[SIZE="3"]Firefox 3 Launches, Servers Crash[/SIZE]

To celebrate the launch of its Firefox 3 Web browser, Mozilla has a gimmick up its sleeve: It's trying to set the Guinness world record for most downloads in a day.

Apparently it didn't plan ahead for the swarm of traffic that would hit its servers when the Firefox 3 update got released at 1 p.m. ET. (And it doesn't look like Mozilla is using a CDN like Akamai or Limelight to cache its site.)

We've been trying to load Mozilla's site to download Firefox 3 for the last 15 minutes, with no success. So in the meantime, we'll stick with our old browser.

Apart from funkiness on FG it seems to be heaps faster and very smooth.

FG funkiness seems to be only in the posting window (ie what I am in as I type this).

The page is not rendering properly on Mac OS. Mainly around the smilie window on the right.

GKanai - is this your department or is this something that Ultra needs to tweak?

Plus Favicons are not all coming through on bookmarks. But that is minor really.

I haven't updated to 3.0 yet but I have been seeing that in the posting window recently too.

FG uses vBulletin for the forums, and they may have an update that fixes any issues with Firefox 3. Firefox 3 is a lot more standards-compliant than Firefox 2 (passing the Acid2 test, etc.) so it's an issue with vBulletin.
