Class War At Yamazaki Baking

2chers are apparently taking Yamazaki Baking to task for the layout of the recruitment page on their website where there are separate links for college graduates and high school graduates. The college graduates are represented by an image of aspirational types in suits while the high school applicants are welcomed by a picture of a drudge on a factory line. Critics feel that, at the very least, Yamazaki is guilty of shattering the dreams of high school graduates with a heavy does of reality or, at worst, conspiring in the creation of a permanent underclass whose members will be destined to lead soma-fuelled lives serving as the lackeys of a college-educated elite.

I am always glad to see the latest social trends in Japan, it is a constant source of innovation. I now see that my own enterprises have failed because they lacked an army of soma-fueled lackeys.

If the people here would have the balls to strike (hour long strikes after work don't count) maybe the unions in Japan would have some power to get them better wages. The average american Teamster Union factory worker makes around $50,000 a year some even get as much as $75k. Then again american companies value experience more than a four year degree.

Why don't you map out the future growth rate for those US "Teamster Union factory worker" jobs....GM just paid off 19,000 of them to leave in exchange for GM being able to hire new workers at something like half the current UAW rate?

And what's the UAW's average member age.... something like 49 or 50?

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters covers Police, Firefighters, factory workers, truck drivers, and may other employment fields.
The best example I can offer is UPS.

Part timers don't make shit.

Full time drivers start at $22 an hour but this is a "bid in" job meaning that people already inside the company can bid on these jobs based on time served with the company. Part timers work for a few years and then bid into driver jobs. According to the contract the company has to give at least a $0.50 increase every year to the drivers but if their manager likes them than can get up to $1.50 a year. After 10 years as a driver they make around $26-32 an hour.
10 years of driving and it is time to bid again. From here they either bid on "feeder" (tractor trailer drivers) or sorter jobs. The sorter job under the last contract was called a skilled labor job which at one time started at $30 an hour. Once again the $.50 to $1.50 yearly increase, ten years here and most make around $36 - $40 an hour. $40 an hour equals about $80k a year and 20 years with the company gives a nice retirement package. People who are lucky enough to make it in to the feeder division make more than this.

The class war is over. According this article (Japanese), Yamazaki has now taken down the images from its site.
