Welcome back, Cubed.

Yeah, she must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel for muling drugs into a country with those kinds of laws.

Perhaps jail will give her time to reflect on the terrible decision she made. :?

Schapelle Corby's case in ruins

SCHAPELLE CORBY has suffered her worst setback - the Indonesian Supreme Court has rejected her final appeal, her sentence has been increased to 20 years and her brother has been charged with drug offences............

You are spot on! She was busted for unlicensed doping and moping at the border (of course someone else put the dope in her bags) and she got 20 years to contemplate her naval. It was reduced to about 14years or so, and she appealed. I think (just today, or yesterday) it was reported in the Sydney MH that the upper court disallowed the appeal, plus the sentence reduction and it again was set at 20 years. They didn't know whether or not, if bust of idiot brother helped in stiffing her.

So they have no proof of anyone tampering with her bags throughout the flight - does she have a history of any drug offences?

I also heard a rumour (unconfirmed) that she used to live in Japan and work as a hostess. Also, that she has a Japanese husband who hadn't heard from her for years and didn't know her whereabouts until he saw her on the news after the arrest.

Can any of you news hounds find any confirmation reports of this?

Nope! But she has 20 years. The down side is they don't play around. The up side is that it could have happened in Singapore!

Just answered my own questions...

Ex-husband' surprised at Corby ordeal
The Age, May 17, 2005

The Japanese ex-husband of Schapelle Corby has been stunned to hear she is in prison facing drug smuggling charges, according to New Idea magazine.

Kimi Tanaka, 32, has reportedly only just discovered his 27-year-old ex-wife is in prison waiting for the Indonesian court's verdict on charges she smuggled 4.1 kg of marijuana into Bali last year. more...

AO, AO! The key words here are "telling the truth". These clowns pull up to the Customs table with a dump truck load of dope and say "Gee, how did that get there? Somebody must have tried to frame me?"

Maybe someone has told them that will work for some liberal judge and/or jury in the US, but in Singapore they hang you first and ask questions later. In Indonesia they give you 20 to life and let you work on the appeal system for the balance of the sentence. In Thailand or Turkey they lock you up and file the key under missing. If you get to court before you die of old age, you may get out some day.

And lastly, if you had a suit case of dope worth multi-zeros and numerous dollar signs would you actually approach some ding-a-ling like that who you did not know in the first place, on the hopes they could smuggle it in for you?
If you would, we should talk as I have the some great business proposals for you!

The Australian: Corby 'told of her drug adventures'
MERCEDES Corby boasted of her drug-taking exploits in letters to her one-time best friend Jodie Power, telling her mate that "Japan has the best mull", that she was thinking of going "on a speed diet", and that she had intended to send her brother some ecstasy pills. The letters, written by Ms Corby when she was working in Japan in 1993 and 1994, were read to the jury in her defamation case against the Seven Network in Sydney yesterday. Photographs of Ms Corby - the older sister of convicted drug-smuggler Schapelle Corby - allegedly smoking marijuana and handling drugs were also shown to the court...more...

Corby was taken into hospital on Friday after losing 12 kilograms in four weeks:

The Age: Schapelle Corby on the mend
THE psychiatrist treating Schapelle Corby for severe depression said yesterday her condition was improving. But after a 10-minute visit yesterday with Corby, 30, in her hospital room, Lely Setiawati had no idea of how long she would be in hospital. Corby's elder sister, Mercedes, was again by her side all day - along with armed police. Late in the day a female cousin arrived from Australia. But insiders say suggestions Corby is on "suicide watch" are not true, and there is no suggestion she has tried to harm herself. One of her doctors said Corby had told him several times "I am not crazy", but he said she had been suffering hallucinations and had become paranoid. Another jail doctor said Corby told her: "It is boring to live like this. I would be better dead." Dr Asih Primatanti said it was a common phrase to hear from long-term prisoners.

Corby is suffering severe depression, exacerbated by the loss of her last-ditch legal appeal earlier this year. Jail guards and the jail's doctor said Corby had stopped eating properly and had lost a lot of weight, was depressed, cried often and became suspicious of others. Kerobokan Jail doctor Agung Hartawan said Corby began to feel anyone laughing or talking quietly must be making fun of her. Dr Hartawan said Corby's condition had deteriorated, especially in the past two weeks.

FORMER foreign minister Alexander Downer has admitted he asked Schapelle Corby's lawyer whether there might be any family involvement in her drug smuggling attempt into Bali. But he said yesterday there was nothing more to it than that. Mr Downer said he had no special knowledge of the case. "I did ask them about the brother and whether there was any family involvement, but I only asked them," he said.

Some clear FG symptoms manifesting themselves:

SMH: Schapelle Corby 'insane'
Schapelle Corby has gone insane and will not survive her 20-year sentence unless she is moved out of Bali's Kerobokan jail, a top Australian psychiatrist has warned. Associate Professor Jonathan Phillips, who is believed to have been employed by the Corby family, visited Corby in prison earlier this month and says the former beauty student is "hanging on by a thread". "She is lost in her own bewildering world where fantasy, hallucinations and bizarre ideas dominate her mind," Dr Phillips told New Idea magazine...more...

Re: FG Schapelle Corby!

Schapelle Corby released from Bali’s Kerobokan jail

Schapelle Corby was released from Bali’s Kerobokan prison on Monday morning after nearly a decade of protesting her innocence to the Indonesian legal system.

In chaotic scenes, the 36-year-old drug trafficker, head covered, was escorted from the prison by police through a crowd of about 60 reporters and photographers who had been camped outside the jail for days.

Corby said nothing to the media as she was released. The prison’s governor, Farid Junaedi, told reporters in Indonesian that Corby was still a prisoner and would now begin her parole. He described the 36-year-old as nervous because of the intense media scrutiny.

Corby was bundled into a police van and ferried, under the heavy escort of more than 100 police, to the prosecutor’s office to sign the paperwork to finalise her release after serving nine years of her 15-year sentence. She was then taken to the corrections office to be read the terms of her parole.

Under the terms of her parole, Corby, who is from the Gold Coast, must remain in Bali until 2017. She is expected to live initially with her sister Mercedes Corby and her Balinese brother-in-law Wayan Widiartha at their home in Kuta. moar.....
