Matsushita Electric's Water Powered Computer

A model pours a cup of water into what is said to be the world's first water-powered computer ...

Following Japan's recent abundance of water supplies, caused by the popularity of extremely efficient white goods, Matsushita Electric ("ME") has invented a computer that runs on water. Design number 109 by ME is conveniently called the ME109, borrows heavily from German technology and works by breaking down water into its components - hydrogen and oxygen.

"We are very happy to have the help of the Germans in creating the ME109." says Mr Tora Toratora, ME's spokesman.

Given the explosive nature of the constituent elements, the development phase was not without mishaps and ME strongly urges customers not to smoke while operating the ME109.

"Yes, we're still working on that problem" agreed Mr Toratora, referring to the fact that if the ME109 was roughly handled, it could spit fire and even explode ...

Real story here.

Actually, the real story of the "LET'S NOT" computer is here:

[B]New Laptop Is Waterproof
All Headline News --- April 25, 2006 11:07 a.m. EST
Tokyo, Japan (AHN) --
Matsushita Electronic, most well known for their Panasonic brand, are putting out a new laptop they claim won't break even if you spill water on it.
The Let's Not CF-Y5 protects the hard drive and circuit board from light water damage through the use of a waterproof sheet and a special drainage system....more...

Just in case the All Headline News tries to charge or gussy up that news story, here's a screenshot.

That's 99kg! Maybe it's deuterium oxide ("heavy water") that they're really worried about.

At this risk of sounding like an otaku, .... apparently that was a Me 109 sent to Japan from Germany for evaluation purposes by the Imperial Japanese Army.

Wikipedia wrote:
In Japan, the Kawasaki Company utilized the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E, which Germany had sent over, in their design evaluations. This lead to the creation of one of the best Japanese Army fighters in operation at the time, the unique In-line engined Japanese fighter the Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien aka "Tony" ... more
