Surely the first piece belongs in the newbie reporter section? Clarkson of all people... I thought he had been to Japan loads of times.

More pertinently though, I've been watching every single rerun of every episode of the last 10 seasons that I have so very gingerly collected on my PC, waiting for these guys to return this summer.

Stuff like this is torture, let me tell you.

Clarkson's article is pushing the border between creative exaggeration and outright lying :p

"Bonsai!" :D
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

There is, however, one aspect of Japanese life that is neither similar to the system we have in Britain nor something we should covet: going to the lavatory...

And he's talking about the Western style toilets here. I wonder what would have happened if he'd encountered a Japanese toilet.

In that case I suspect he would have likened it to a campsite in the south of France.

TopGear: Nissan GTR vs Shinkansen race

R35 GT-R take on the Japanese bullet train.
[yt]Ja1Px038CNY[/yt]
Driver Clarkson has a bit of a nightmare trying to figure out what half the buttons in the GT-R do, while presenters May and Hammond experience similar problems trying to communicate in Japanese to do simple things like figure out the Japanese train system
