Guys can anyone help me out here? im looking for a tuner for my computer since i can't find a cheap tv.. any idea?

Found one finally

there is another version for Windows. it receives Analog TV and 1seg with the size of 320x240

damn. the size is fucked.
analog tv has bigger quality.

Try elgato. They mostly focus on US and European TV standards, but I think you'll find something to cover you.

Have you tried the gaijin classifieds. There are quite a few around. As long as you don't mind used stuff - there is lots of recycling among the foreign community. Try Gaijinpot.com plus google for some more - there are even some old threads on here that have links to classified sites.

Also the Yahoo groups called: Tell and Sell Japan and Tokyo Freecycle.

Of course there are Yahoo Auctions if you read enough Japanese. The range is much broader on the Japanese sites.

What, you asking me about the elgato products? They have several units that pick up NTSC, PAL, and various cable & over-the-air HDTV formats, I'm sure they have something that will pick up your signals. Unfortunately I don't know the spec of the signals they're using in Japan for cable or broadcast HDTV, so I don't know what would be the best match.
The big question is, does it connect to local programming guides so you can use it like a TiVo? Perhaps elgato has a localized product in Japan. I'm sure one of the elgato tuners will pick up your channels, and EyeTV units are a favorite of Mac users, their software is very good. But no localized program guides would be a dealbreaker.

That's how big 1seg is, which isn't bad considering it's only takes up one of the thirteen segments.

NTSC effectively has the same resolution anyway, with VHS being even lower.

This is your solution:

The Miglia TVMicro Express.

It handles all the channels, quality is good (though analog), and you can connect it quickly and easily. It doesn't do 1seg, but who wants that terrible quality TV anyway, unless you want to watch TV at a coffee shop or something.

The bundled software isn't that great, so I DEFINITELY recommend EyeTV-- it'd beautiful, handles recording and pausing live tv, and you can use your Apple remote with it. Guess you'll have to find a place to download/buy that, though.

The one downside is that the EyeTV software doesn't seem to work correctly with the Japanese channel guide, so you don't (yet) get an onscreen guide.

There should be an easy workaround. This is the J-channel guide: Mino Monta.
