World Domination via Textbooks

Much Dokdo about nothing?

There's been a few threads discussing Japan's neighbourhood disputes, including Job Opportunity: Lighthouse Keeper and (more recently) Korean Singer Takes Dokdo/Takeshima Dispute To NYT.

Japan's new school textbook guidelines have reportedly ramped things up - creating opposition in Moscow and outright mayhem in Korea:

. . . South Korea Monday recalled its ambassador to Japan in protest over the Japanese Education Ministry's release of new guidelines for school textbooks describing the Dokdo islets, lying in waters between the two Asian neighbors, as Japanese territory . . . more

Plans to teach Japanese school children that their country has sovereignty over the Russian-administered Southern Kuril Islands have been criticised by Moscow. New schoolbooks depicting the Pacific islands as part of Japanese territory are due to be used in classrooms from 2012 . . . more

Now, I don't recall Japanese school textbooks ever being accused of being factually accurate, or of determining world events. Sadly, they seem to be used too often in Japan as tools of propaganda.

But does anyone really believe that reality can be changed by a J-school textbook?

Sure, you may have J-kids running around with little grasp on reality, but how is that different to the status quo? Exhibit "A" is Takechanpoo.

So, if reality will not suddenly implode if it does not match what some crackpots have written in a J-school textbook, why does anyone care?

"Give me the boy until he is seven and I will give you the man".

You are right in that allowing this to continue won't effect the status quo. But some people want to change the status quo, and they think one way to achieve this is through early childhood education.

Reality may not implode, but it can, I think, be determined or at least shaped by what people are taught from an early age.

Kimchese just shout with loud voices and pile up established facts by using their "poor" position as a victim of empire Japan. Meanwhile they intentionally ignore evidences.
On the other hand, Japan just keep insisting truths on the basis of objective facts. Japan has no reason being blamed.

They're printing that and pissing off the other countries - but what should they print instead ? Ask Korea - and they'll say "Print that it's our country."
Neither country's gonna budge.
So I guess we'll just have to let the two children fight it out.
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

Why not print something close to the Wikipedia entries for each dispute, explaining the history and background of the disputes, etc?

For example, this one for "Liancourt Rocks" (aka "Takeshima" / "Dokdo").

Hell, that settles the whole argument Kuro, the Liancourt Rocks are the property of France! Japan and Korea claims are too late!

They had coverage of this on the news this morning. They showed a bunch of protestors in Korea holding up signs and pelting rocks at the J embassy. The thing that got me is there was a white guy among the group. What a fucking jack off.

There's nothing the Koreans love more than a good riot. Said white guy was probably just looking to explore a little bit of traditional Korean culture.

I'm guessing said honkey's balls are in the vice grip tucked neatly in his K wife's knock-off LV handbag.

Peace out guys and enjoy the long weekend. I'm actually heading to Haneda right now for a direct flight to Gimpo and an extra long weekend of R&R in Seoul. So fucking glad to be getting out of Tokyo right now :D

At least he'll get some for his little outing. Can't blame the guy, personally.
