THE THING (fm.thing.net) is building a radio networks using internet audio (via wireless and wired connections) and miniFM.

Japan/Kanto's high population density makes this easy. Just put a lot of legal 0.25 watt low powered FM transmitters linked by the Internet and create a Radio Station for "free" and beyond the reach of the communication authorities.
