Hennako-Chan And The Iya-na Gaijin

"Hennako-chan is a black comedy comic about a girl with psychic powers and was serialized in weekly magazine “Shukan Josei” from January 1991 to August 1994."

Hennako chan decides that if her sister's new foreign boyfriend likes Japan so much then she ought to help him become more Japanese. If you go to the Gonzodoga website, they have added an English subtitle function not available directly through YouTube. The clip above is "Hennako-Chan #1"

The third Hennako-chan is online with subtitles until June 5th. The first video is still up but the second has already been removed which is a shame because it was the best of the lot so far.

The creator of Hennako-chan, Fujio Akatsuka, has passed away today after a long illness.

All the Gonzo Doga videos have been removed from the web but will now be released on DVD. They were too extreme to be broadcast on television which, if you know anything about Japanese TV, ought to give you some clue about their content if you didn't catch them originally. You can also still see some of Akatsuka's original Japanese manga here. The videos weren't full animations as such. Instead, Gonzo took the original comic panels and then added some animation and editing to produce the final clips. Here's a short YouTube promo for the DVD:

I got my copy of the DVD a few weeks ago. I think they are/were only on sale at Lawson's. Definitely worth it at 1200 yen.
