Exploding iPod Nano

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Jan 11, 2008 7:51 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]There have already been stories of ipod nanos exploding owing to faulty batteries but one 2cher has reported what he believes is the first instance in Japan. The picture shows the resulting damage. It apparently burned his tatami mat.

Yeah, right.. If it looks like a cigarette burn, smells like a cigarette burn..

But cool! I just started using the new iBook battery from the last recall.. Now I potentially get a new Nano battery? Apple all the way, baby!

Wonder when the Tata Nano's will start exploding? ;)

I was wondering when the Tata Nano and iPod Nano trademark wars would start exploding!

AFP: Japan investigates after iPod nano overheats, sparks
An iPod nano in Japan overheated and discharged sparks, the Japanese industry ministry said Tuesday in a list of recent serious incidents involving consumer products. "The battery part of the product overheated while being charged and sparked," the ministry said, adding it was investigating the January 8 incident. Makers Apple in Japan could not be reached immediately. The company has publicly warned that iPod, iPod nano or iPod shuffle may generate excess heat while being charged in certain carry cases.

They really jumping on this one, instead of waiting the customary three to four years to look into something.

Japan must have a rival product to launch.....

That was my first though too. Or maybe the one that DID explode belonged to someone important.

Japan Demands Probe Into Cause of Nano Flameouts

MacNewsWorld - ECT News Network 08/19/08 3:42 PM PT...Several incidents of iPod Nanos bursting into flames have created consumer jitters in gadget-happy Japan. Apple is downplaying the problem, pointing out that no major injuries or damage have been reported. The problem is due to defective batteries, the company said, and only a tiny percentage of the devices have caught on fire...more...

And the irony is, the batteries were made in Japan.

They downplayed them in naming the device - "nano" means one billionth. So a nano-fire or a nano-injury would only be one-billionth the size of a regular one.
