Pink tartan designed for Japanese
BBC - Sunday, 24 August 2008 00:30 UK
A designer has created a tartan for Japan which draws inspiration from the country's fascination with cherry blossom and a Scottish industrialist....
His latest design has still to be woven, but on paper includes the colours pink, white, green and brown....
....The new tartan has also had input from Shizue Melvin, from Japan, who is married to a Scottish businessman.
The design is called sakura, Japanese for cherry blossom...more...

This will be great if they follow the tradition of wearing nothing under the kilts...

As a Scotsman, I am deepy offended by the way my cultural heritage is being portrayed here and will lodge a protest with my local MP. :D

BBC: Cherry tartan in 'samurai' tie in
A cherry blossom tartan to be sold in Japanese stores looks set to feature in celebrations marking the life of a man dubbed the "Scottish Samurai". Tartans designer David McGill, from Edinburgh, Shizue Melvin, from Japan, and her businessman husband John have been working on the project. Due to get its official launch in Nagasaki, the tartan has drawn interest from the Thomas Glover Foundation. Fraserburgh-born Glover was a key figure in 19th Century Japan. Mr Melvin, from Edinburgh, hoped the new tartan would get its official launch in September at Glover's former mansion in Japan. He said the foundation has helped to encourage the Japanese Philharmonic Orchestra to wear some items such as ties, cummerbunds, scrunchies and ribbons during a performance of Scottish music...more...
