Kikuchi For "Map of the Sounds Of Tokyo"

Postby Mulboyne » Tue Aug 26, 2008 4:56 am

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Catalan director Isabel Coixet announced earlier this year that her next project would be filmed almost entirely on location in Japan. "Map of the Sounds of Tokyo" is a Spanish production but most of the dialogue will be in English. One brief plot outline available says that it will be a thriller featuring a fish-market employee who doubles as a contract killer. Another says it centres on an obsessive man who collects both sounds and women but it's not clear whether this describes the same character. Some big names have been attached to the project: Penelope Cruz has worked with Coixet before but remains unconfirmed. The director herself has named Sergi Lopez in the cast and recently revealed that Rinko Kikuchi would take a leading role. Ken Watanabe is also regularly mentioned but he's always a contender for a Japanese role in an overseas film and, increasingly, Kikuchi is carving out the same niche.
