The rest-of-the-story here is that Indonesia used to supply the majority of Japan's natural gas (LPG) but announced that in the next 5 years would not sell [B]any LPG to Japan (that means all Japanese water heaters and gas tables would not work in 2013!)[/INDENT][/B]

Indonesia says it needs all of it for "domestic growth". (Maybe they are thinking of reserves in the face of peak oil -- LPG for buses and cars.)

Not only Japan but also Russia want to resolve the territory issue. And Russia, which is pro-Japan country at its citizen level(Japan is 3rd as Russian naitonal's liking country.), also want to sell gas to Japan.
So why can't be this territory issue resolved no matter how much time passes?
Because Uncle Sam stealthily have hindered Japan from strength political and economic tie with Russia without Uncle Sam.(And originally Uncle Sam proposed Russia to give the territory by secret agreememt in WW2.) Actually my Suzuki Muneo who had agreed with Russian side about the issue in the outline by using his personal connection was trapped by Uncle Sam and had to retrete from political forefront. Northern territory issue is a wedge between Japan and Russia made by Uncle Sam.
