The one you linked too looks pretty cool. I've never been to one, but I'm guessing you pay an hourly fee to get to hang out, watch movies, surf the net, read manga - or any combination of the above?

Yes they have an hourly rate, Some Kissas have a special offer like for 7 hours its 1500 yen. But I dont know if that one I said has a special offer as I just went there during the day. The do have a couples rate of 300 yen an hour, its pretty cool. and of course you get net access and all.

I only really like that one becasue the double rooms are so fucking huge.

International phone calls for free might be worth investigating. But 100 / 15 mins, most Kissas are 200 an hour a little steep. Does it have playboy? Both the Kissas I mentioned have some very soft skin mags.

WiFi works everywhere around Ropongi Crossing in my car: at least 4 "open" access points during the late afternoon--early evening. 8)

I will tell you of my Manga Kissaten experience. I was in Sapporo about 3 weeks before the summit started. Everybody was so god damn jumpy already it was insane. I had already been stopped by the police about 5 times in Hokkaido by this point and I was already well and truly sick of them harassing me.

I was on holiday at this point so I did not have a computer to get on the internet. So what do I do? I went to the "Media Cafe POPEYE" right in the center of town (I got a card from there so I still know the name). As I walked in I could see the unsure look the staff gave me. Maybe I was the first gaijin that had been in there, but I kinda find it hard to beleieve. She told me I had to sign up in order to use a computer, and in order to sign up I needed to produce a form of ID. I was quite hungover and not really up for all this bureaucratic bullshit, but I needed to use the internet, so I grudgingly handed over my alien registration card.

AT first the girl looked at it taking down the details normally. She then paused and asked the manager to come. AT the time I thought it was cause this was the first Alien Registration card she had gotten. Well the manager look at the card for a long while. I got impaitent and asked if I could use the computer now and he said "yes". I sat down at my seat, began using the internet only to be bothered by the magaer one more time. He asked if I would show him my alien registration card again. I was kinda pissed by this point, as usually I just go in to a Manga Kissten, sit down and away I go, without any of this registering crap. Nevertheless I gave it to him one more time, in hindsight I should have known something was up, but I just thought they forgot to take a detail down or something. The manager was really polite about it all so I had no idea what he was up to.

He came back about 5 minutes later and handed me back the card saying thankyou. I continued to use the computer. Five minutes later, two police officers turn up behind me demanding to see my alien registration card. I asked why and they said they had reason to suspect I had overstayed my Visa. I soon realized what the fucking sneaky manager had gone and done. I had the updated dates of my visa on the back of my alien registration card. They are clearly written there on the back and have an offical stamp and even have some holographic tape over em to make sure its not a fake. The manager had only looked at the front of my card, seeing the expired date, jumped the gun and called the cops on me.

The police soon realized the mistake had been made and one actually made a comment to the other how embarassing this was for the business. They were out the door in a minute. I dont think the staff members understood why I had not been arrested as when I walked to the front counter a free man the girl and the manager retreated backwards a little. Maybe it was the anger on my face that was very clearly evident. They apologised, only once, because I proceeded out the door before they could again. I think I would have seriously injured one of them, or more probably myself, if I had stuck around.

How angry are you? Especially given the fact that's Debito's neck of the woods, I have a hunch he would be THRILLED if you passed the story on to him. This is a pretty typical headline item for his home page, and he usually follows up by contacting the business's owner, threatening to out them in the newspaper, and trying to elicit a formal written apology. He did this recently with another business .

i dont remember the name or if it actually went into effect, but when i still lived over there, i remember talk of their being some sort of "conspiracy law" being passed in japan where if someone is knowledgeable of a crime and dont report it that they also will be guilty.
im not trying to justify anything, i think its a bullshit law, im just saying maybe the owners had that on their mind.
