Cool baby/ kid stuff PLUS Tokyo tips

Postby Pamplemousse » Thu Sep 11, 2008 10:53 am

Hi all, haven't lived in Japan for 15 years but returning this week, can't wait.
I would love to know where in Tokyo I can buy cool baby stuff as I am expecting my first child soon. Do you know of any amazing shops I should visit? Please fill me in!

Also, we're in Tokyo for 5 days, Kyoto for two. I want to do fun stuff.. weird stuff... Japan stuff (ie not 'touristy' stuff) any cool ideas for me?

And ...what about an awesome izakaya OR yakiniku joint for dinner that's close to Ginza?

Thanks gaijins!

Baby gap seems to be popular.

Or you can get cute baby jimbei etc in most kimono shops.

As to the other questions about stuff to do - really depends what you are in to.

for restaurant advice - go to http://www.bento.com that is a good place to start.

Sorry to hear you are returning to the Concrete Buttplug(tm), but if you want "Japanesey" baby crap your best bet are the Japanese designer baby goods at the major dept. stores in Tokyo.
May I suggestSanrio Marchengallery, a new character goods shop on the seventh floor of the Tobu department store at Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo. :p

Kiddyland on Omote-sando has several floors of stuff. But there's more there for Harajuku girls to hang off their phones than there is for babies.

Bento.com is good. G-Navi is also worth a try. There are more listings on the Japanese pages than on the English ones. If you're looking for an izakaya/yaki-niku type place, try wandering around Yurakucho - there's plenty of choice.
