Russia's Putin violates the Japanese

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan protested to Moscow after a Russian military plane intruded into Japanese air space over the Izu Islands south of Tokyo on Saturday, a Japanese foreign ministry official said.

The foreign ministry told the Russian government to investigate the case and sought an explanation, the official said.

The Russian warplane flew over the isle of Sofugan, about 650 km (400 miles) south of Tokyo, around 7:30 a.m. (2230 GMT on Friday), the official said.

"We strongly protest against the violation," the official said.

Russia last violated Japanese air space in January 2006, when a Russian plane flew over Rebun Island off the coast of Hokkaido, a major island in the north, the official said.

Kyodo news agency reported 22 Japanese fighter jets were scrambled to deal with the intrusion.

Japan and Russia have been locked in a decades-old territorial dispute that has prevented the two sides from signing a peace treaty putting a formal end to World War Two.

Despite the long-standing row, the two countries have been trying to expand ties. Russia is keen for funds to develop its far eastern regions, while Japan is eager to tap Russia's booming oil industry to reduce its reliance on Middle Eastern energy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered new talks to resolve the territorial dispute, prompting Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda to consider a visit to Moscow. Continued...

I'm guessing it was a Tupolve-95, the jets scrambled for interception were F15 Eagles and Phantoms (and not the over priced, troublesome F2)

Should have shot the Ruskie plane down. Putin has been sending out his bombers cold war style trying to prove Russia has some kind of power.

All that plus oil revenues now that have shot through ther roof are giving Russia a renewed confidence. Good to see that Putin is not abusing his newfound power (insert a wink here). I have a feeling this guy will start a war somewhere.

Good point Pete. One, or two Sidewinders launched on a timely basis are an excellent technique in training pilots not to do this again.

I would have preferred getting alongside the big Bear and pushing a copy of Penthouse against the canopy, with the Ruskies showing their hard-fought empty can of Pepsi cola to the F15 jocks in return, but I guess those days are long gone

That Typhoon is RAF over the North Atlantic.... the Russians have been doing the same thing over here, mostly prodding Norwegian and British airspace.

Another incident ?

US Navy 'buzzed' by Russian bombers
http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5hF5yBodhqh9P_F4ANpuHsafAHzhQ
US fighter planes intercepted two Russian bombers flying unusually close to an American aircraft carrier in the western Pacific during the weekend, it has emerged.

A US military official said that one Russian Tupolev 95 flew past the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz twice, at a low altitude of about 2,000 feet, while another bomber circled about 50 nautical miles away.

The incident on Saturday, which never escalated beyond the flyover, comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Russia over US plans for a missile defence system based in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Such Russian bomber flights were common during the Cold War, but this is the first time Russian Tupolevs have flown over or interacted with a US carrier since 2004.

Bolivia's crisis highlights US neglect in region
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jirqN7XJYpCvs7i5LSoHK9GFaHbQD935FTO00
Latin America's leaders rallied around Evo Morales on Friday as Bolivia's president fought to keep his Andean nation whole, but few backed his claim that Washington was inciting the unrest.

Only Venezuela's pugilistic president, Hugo Chavez, matched Morales by booting an American ambassador
Image
Other Chavez-related concerns include his weapons purchases from and growing military ties to Russia, which sent two long-range Tupolev bombers for a friendly visit this week and is planning naval exercises with Venezuela in November

Another "Mission Accomplished" by Commander Bunnypants. Insisting the Ukraine and Georgia join Nato and placing interceptors in Poland Bush has re-ignited the cold war. So Russia is fighting back by making S. American allies, places to park their bombers and perhaps missiles. Tit for tat.

Boosh keeps poking the cornered bear and for what? WTF are the Boosh loons expecting to accomplish?

And please, no witty comments like turn Siberia into a giant steam bath. If that happens, I can guarantee that you won't live longer than a few months no matter where you are. No fuckin missile shield is going to stop tens, hundreds, or thousands of nukes. Don't forget the Russians have quite a nasty biological warfare arsenal too. :romance:

P.S. Perhaps it's time to bring back the old traditions of marry kids off to the kids of their rivals in order to strengthen ties and prevent wars. I nominate the Boosh twins go first and just marry Putin.
Spare a drink?
