Japanese Hypospray - Dr. McCoy would be proud

Most of our childhoods have already been ruined by needles at the doctor's office, but one Japanese inventor thinks he's come up with the perfect pain-free, needle-free injection to sooth tomorrow's lucky kids. Called Mother's Kiss, the device would theoretically eliminate the need for needles and even existing needle-free devices, which use gas or air pressure to deliver drugs (think primitive Dr. Crusher). Instead, the seemingly simple device uses tiny plastic ampules to deliver life saving meds to the needle-averse. National Geographic has a video, but it doesn't embed, so check the link for more on inventor Yoshoi Oyama and Mother's Kiss.

Invention? Not really. The Jet Injector was in common use in the 1960s. I remember being vaccinated with one.

Hmm, compressed air.

Just imagine the possibilities.

Also, I believe they also have micro-needles that do essentially the same thing... they use them for drug testing and such.

You talking about that thing attached to hoses? They were still using those in the early 90s when I entered the military.

How about implementing something like that when you are at the dentist? The average sticking the needles in the gums ain't what I would call a windy walk in the park.

Well that's different, you're not just blowing a vaccine anywhere into a muscle. You have to put the needle exactly into the center of the nerve at a certain depth. Perhaps you can tell I have far too much experience with that. Now don't get me started telling you about the most painful possible place to receive an injection, your big toe.

Those were the babies. If they were not put flat against the arm and angled at all, they would cut a track right down the arm!

My favorite patch: Fentanyl Pain Patches. Way too much fun to be legal. Every now and then I wander down to a particular place to visit my favorite, shall we say "corp" DR., who hooks me up with a few to deal with broken bone pain. I keep at least one in by bag when out "rolling"(inside industry term). I tend to get hurt when partaking in my hobby.
