Today's Tourism Trivia

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Oct 01, 2008 1:28 am

The Japan National Tourist Organization has revealed the results of a survey on tourist spending habits. They say that the average expenditure for a visitor to Japan is 242,000 yen. Excluding airfare and other upfront costs, the average individual outlay in Japan comes to 118,000 yen. Indian nationals topped the in-country spending list, registering 175,000 yen per head, followed by French with 157,000 yen and Americans with 150,000 yen. Koreans brought up the rear of the 15 country list with average spending of 68,000 yen. People from countries neighbouring Japan were more likely to visit for shorter periods which goes some way to explaining the difference. In fact, given how much impact the length of a stay has on spending, it seems somewhat ridiculous not to account for this data more fully. The survey was conducted by interviewing departing travellers at Japan's main airports in December of last year. The results are based on 4,659 replies. (Source: Nikkei)

How about this for a trivia: Japan is losing its annual tourism share with the rest of the world despite the aggressive Yokoso brainwashing campaign. I guess the Yokoso campaign fails to mention about the obvious grey concrete structures in its propaganda flyer brochures.

That can't be right. It's gotta be more than that. I spend that much on wining and dining hookers....

So does this mean that Indian nationals are richer than everyone else, or that they're more prone to exaggeration, or that they simply spend more on Xmas presents?

Or perhaps that Korean nationals don't like telling people how much they've spent?

Seems like kind of a flakey way to come up with the figures.
