This gots to be a piss-take: "Narratives of Exclusion? Representation of characters with a Japanese-Chinese Hafu identity in Japanese cinema and TV" and "Hafus and their ethnic identities in the context of Japanese racial discourse".

Japanese-other mongoloid mixed never be called "Half".
Generally "Half" means Japanese and non-mongoloid mixed blooded creature.

i think it comes down to the 'it's ok if i call myself that, but you can't call me that'. just like blacks calling each other niggers or girls calling each other bitch.

in russia, whenever we talk about someone/thing that is from russia, we say it's 'nash' (ours). but if a foreigner tries to use it, even in reference to themselves or their own culture, they're given the look of death.

i'm always amused at the amount of energy people waste being insulted on racial slurs. who gives a fuck, really? every one of us has something in our heritage that there's a racial insult for. live and let live, yeah? and take the piss out of as many people as you can along the way and you'll be on an even playing field with everyone else. i really don't give a toss what the politically correct term is for people here, haafu or hollu. if you cut 'em in half with a knife, they'll all bleed the same colour.

as robin williams said...
Come on now! You kick out the gooks, the next thing you know, you have to kick out the chinks, the spicks, the spooks, the kikes and all that's going to be left is a couple of brain-dead rednecks.

That tone seems largely down to Marcia Yumi Lise:
She decided to study sociology, which gave her the foundation to contextualise social phenomenon through sociological analyses. Her first original project was on the marginalisation of the half Japanese, which eventually became her undergraduate thesis.

She brings a lot of baggage to her work as you can see when she writes this in her profile:
Her research interest lies in thearea of race, ethnicity, identity and nationalism, in particular the link between the treatment of the half-Japanese and the unique Japanese racial thinking.

No.. I was surprised you didn't know she was some relative of bin Laden; she was all over the news a few years back.

I think she's hot. I like some Arab women.. Knew this Syrian American in college.. Wow, and horny as shit. Must be the generations of burkas that make them horny. :p

She looks like Osama with the beard shaved. Even if she didn't remind me of Osama, she'd still look like a tranny (which explains why you're attracted to her).

I think so. I just spotted these T-shirts at Mitsukoshi in Ginza a few days ago, selling for 6500 yen.

at dinner last night, i asked my half danish, half japanese 40-something colleague how he feels about the word haafu and if it's derogatory. he said he doesn't take offense to it at all and often calls himself that. he did mention another word though that came out of the post-war era, (and this was after much sake, so forgive me for getting it wrong...)something like 'aichiko' or 'ainiko', that he does take offense to. the word basically means 'product of sex'.

Yes, ainoko was a common term as was konketsuji but both are pretty much taboo these days. The word "double" hasn't really found favour although I think everyone appreciates why people would try to promote it.

As Slim said, it was probably "Ainoko", obviously "Love Child" and having produced a bunch of them, I know that they also have no problem with the term "haafu", but greatly dislike the "Love Child" tag.

This is a throw back to the days when it was locally felt that the "only" meetings between a J-gal and a FG would have been illicit and of course, with no marriage thereto. This would be because nice marriage eligible J-girls would never associate with the barbarians. So any resultant child of such a union could only have been an illigimate "love child". Historically, I belief that this type thinking dates way back to, oh, about last week.

thank you. :) ainoko, that's it. (as i said, we'd had a LOT of sake...)

he mentioned the word 'double' as well, pretty much said the same that you have about it. of all the words, he said haafu is what is the most acceptable and comfortable term for people that are his age, but for younger people, they really do seem to try to push 'double'.
