Please don't let Oda Yuji be in it. Please, please.
His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."

Been There, Done That...

The Outrage with Paul Newman as the Protagonist, a Mexican Bandit, was a 1964 remake of Rashomon, and it was pretty good, too.

Somehow I get the feeling that this one won't hack it, but I tend to be pessimistic about things - that way I'm never disappointed.

I was surprised to read in Wikipedia that Rashomon was so poorly received in '50s Japan
(Scroll down the page to Japanese responses).
When it received positive responses in the West, Japanese critics were baffled; some decided that it was only admired there because it was "exotic," others that it succeeded because it was more "Western" than most Japanese films.

I guess the more things change the more they remain the same... :|

I have two comments.

1) Kurosawa or not, the original movie sucks compared to Akutagawa's writings.

2) The remake will suck.

3) Kurosawa movies are too fucking long. The dude should have been a photographer.

There, I said it.
