Tokyo Fun!

Postby Iambobo » Thu Jun 19, 2003 8:04 pm

"Get away from the hustle and bustle of city-life as we welcome you to the breathtaking Tokyo Water Park where you can wash away the pressure and stress of the overcrowded city and relax with your friends in the soothing enjoyment of sun, fun and splashing".

Has anyone ever been to the water park in Tokyo. Here is the advert picture for it.

(Is there a size limit for images on this site? I've noticed the distinct lack of large pictures around here....why is this? (not that I like big pictures much)).

This seemed to be the images the park owners wanted to use to advertise the park with, and the caption above the picture is the message to go with it. It would seem to imply that this picture was indeed taken on one of their 'slow' days.

That's why I want to know if anyone has actually been there...I want to know if there is truth in the picture.

Toshimaen Pool: Serving all FG pervs since 1929!

Of course Japanese have needed to created a technical word for this pool situation: IMO-ARI ('batch washing of potatoes')
Hey I ain't making this up. "like washing potatoes"---so crowded you can't turn around (water related only)

Not completely honest information from the Tokyo Weekender wrote:For a bigger thrill, plan a day at Toshimaen, our children's favorite summer outing. With its wave pool, hydropolis water slide and amusement park rides, Toshimaen is loads of fun. The nightly fireworks displays continue through August, and on Sundays there is song and dance entertainment.
Toshimaen is at 3-26-1 Koyama in Nerima Ward, Tokyo. To get there, take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line from Ikebukuro Station to Nerima Station. From there, you transfer to the train for Toshimaen-mae. For more information, call 3990-3131.

The obvious question is, do Japanese LIKE to be completely surrounded by people at a density of about five per square meter, even when they are trying to relax? Between this and Tokyo Disney, I am starting to think that is the case.

Japan sees outbreak of 'pool fever'

Japan faces a major outbreak of pharyngoconjunctival fever, generally called "pool fever" as many patients are infected with the virus in swimming pools, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases said Saturday.

Two quick questions for you:

1) Was the gang from Channep there?
2) If so did you meet Mr. Hip???

OK, so when is the best time to go to Tokyo Disney? Obviously not now (hot, school holidays, hot). Is there always a huge crowd? Should I wait for the next typhoon to strike, and go then?

I doubt that Beat Takeshi has any idea his name is Vic Romano on that show (which was made in Japan in the 80's I believe).....

The dubbing is funny (not dubbing really, but filler)....and the production cost must be close to zero.....

Actually Takeshi's Castle is a relatively new show that is now in it's 3rd season in Japan. TNN (AKA SPIKE TV) only has about 10 or 12 episodes of this show. I only have one question about that show;

DOES ANYONE EVER WIN ANYTHING ON THAT SHOW???

What do we always say?
DON'T GET ELIMINATED!!!

Is pool chlorine effective with that many people in the water? I mean, you can almost be guaranteed to get athlete's foot if not something else..

Nope.
Several times when I've been in Toshimaen Pool in those conditions thy annouced over the loudspeakers they needed to close the pool for 30 minutes to, and I quote: "Allow the filters to recover."

The poop in the pool clogs the filters to the point the system overloads. Now there's a good job for a n00b gaijin: "Pool Poop Wranger".

There are still some less crowded places available, with equally pleasant views ...

Gee wiz, I wonder why this is happening? ;)
Swimming pool virus spreading in Japan
Crisscross News - Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 06:42 EDT
TOKYO ---
The institute [sic] said it has received reports of around 41,500 patients between January and late June from around 3,000 designated pediatric clinics. Patients have been reported in all 47 prefectures in the country, it said. The latest figure represents a rise of more than 1.7 times the level of 2004 when a 10-year high was marked.
Since the start of this year, the average number of patients with pharyngoconjunctival fever, commonly called "pool fever" in Japan, per clinic has exceeded the corresponding number in 2004 in almost every week...more....
