to Mul,
Naw, like I said, I'm not that passionate about the so-called topic or you. I don't know your motives for not modifying the post title or adding your own context, I can only draw what I can from your choice of post and title since that's all you originally posted. And, as I predicted, simply saying that "hey, it's just the title from the post on another site" doesn't help any in clarifying things. On the Internet context is everything. For example there are sites dedicated to pick-up artists in Japan and they talk all kinds of sexist crap on those sites, but when those guys come here and post the same kind of drivel, or even "repost" that drivel and title from another site they get shot down on FG (at least most of the time), and rightfully so--because their post is not in context on this site.

So... When you post something like that and decide not to contextualize it by adding additional original comment in that post, it's kind of silly to be surprised when someone openly wonders what you meant by posting that.

Anyway, no, I don't assume the worst in people and based on your reply I will assume my judgment was off regarding your post, so apologies to you if I misunderstood your attempt at humor/cross cultural issues/etc. But remember, context is important.

The irony of the reaction to my reaction is that when such sloppy lack of context posts are committed regarding ANYTHING Japanese/Living IN Japan, the resident FG experts here pile on that person and spank him/her with corrections/derision/disdain/critique UNTIL that person properly contextualizes or clarifies what they meant by their post. Think about it, and then reconsider the reactions to my reaction.

Keep in mind that others may not have had the same lack of "contextualization", or may have taken the article in a different way than you did. Then when they saw your repsonse, they pounced. That's the fun of FGland, since we can't beat our masters, we beat up on each other. But, we buy each other drinks afterwards.

The original title is more interesting. You can't expect everything to be sanitized so as not to offend your overly-PC sensibilities.

I'm a white guy with one of those "black" names. It's been interesting seeing people's reactions over the years.

Me too Samurai Jerk. When I arrived at a school I used to teach at, an adult student said "when we heard your name we were worried you were a black man."
Oh dear.

Me too, Mulboyne - and BTW, since the kid wrote "black" in that title herself, I would think that it would be rude if it HAD been changed. She has a right to be quoted in her own words. I think any other way would have smacked of PC censorship.

String,
Interesting, now humor is using the quote function to make people think someone wrote something they never wrote. I never wrote that, I'm quite genki, thank you. But nice try at humor. ;)

Postby Bucky » Wed Nov 12, 2008 11:12 am

I had to chuckle a little.

Mrs. Bucky has taken up the laudable hobby of raising guide dog puppies for the blind. We keep the pooch for about year, give it basic obedience training then turn it over to the guide dog school where the dog will get the "guiding" training.

The first dog we raised was whisked off to the training school late last winter. The dog was deemed to be of superior stock and they made her a breeder to make more guide dog puppies. Well the dog had a small litter of puppies, (only two) and because we raised the dog Mrs. Bucky has been given the honor of submitting names for consideration for the two new puppies.

Each litter of puppies get names beginning with a certain letter of the alphabet. In this case, our former dog's puppies' names will begin with "W".

One of the names Mrs. Bucky suggested was Wanko. At least it wasn't Wanker, but it did give me a bit of a laugh. :bukkake:
