Isn't it incorrect to refer to any of Ishihara's statements as thoughts when you omit the quotation marks?

Japan, with just 130 million people

What a uniquely small country Japan is!

And it's cultural uniqueness is uniquely unique.

Ishihara never fails to impress, impress what an idiot he is.
His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."

That was one of my favourite parts. Only the United States, China, India, Indonesia, Brazil and Russia have significantly larger populations than Japan while Pakistan and Bangladesh are in the same ballpark.

I found Ishihara to be thoroughly crass in belittling the Beijing ceremony. Certainly, he's not the only critic but he attended as a representative of a city hoping to secure the nomination for 2016. If the only way he can talk up Tokyo's chances is to talk down China's achievement then he can't have much confidence in his own campaign.

The word going around about the selection committee is that Tokyo is about as popular as a turd in the punch bowl. So unless, Japan can do what it does best ie: insert large gobs of cash under the table into all the necessary pockets, we're probably going to Rio to see the next games.

As far as comments on the China ceremonies, I haven't heard enough negative ones to mention. Everything has been from good to great! However, Blinky is Blinky!
