and anyone is surprised by this? what shocking headline to come next...'AV stars paid for sex!'?

seriously though...gravure idols pose in tiny knickers and swimsuits in provocative poses. are they really surprised that they are approached for (or even expected to) paid sex? especially in a society where men can have hand jobs while they sip scotch in clubs or can get their dirty paws into the knickers of a 12 year old in exchange for a gucci bag.

as an actress, if you want to make it mainstream and be treated as an artist, you don't do AV
as a model, if you want to make it mainstream and not be treated as a sex object, you do panasonic adverts, not gravure.

This has been a Marxy trope for some time now - that the casting couch is well-neigh ubiquitous in the (mob-connected) Japanese talent-agency world, and that most J-models, and more than a few tareto, guys and gals are really just a bunch of grandes horizontales.

He's got a post about the immediate story at hand here:

http://meta.neojaponisme.com/2008/11/18/japanese-idols-are-prostitutes/#comments

He's got another interesting post relating to prostitution here:

http://meta.neojaponisme.com/2008/11/11/another-reason-to-hate-weekly-playboy/#comments

The latter is nothing if not well-commented on. It seems like if you want to goose your "blog," there's only one name you need to know:

SAAYA IRIE!

-catone

-the big urban areas of Japan have been repositories of J-inaka huers since, like, forever, have they not? Except that these days, the unseemly business of fathers explicitly selling their daughters off is somewhat frowned upon, it appears.

I wonder if Minako will "have an accident" soon.....such as passing away from a fall in the shower, with the stab wounds in her back being overlooked by the police as having contributed to her untimely demise.

Or perhaps decide to end it all by "jumping" off a building, like Itami Juzo.

Do you think the yakuza threw Itami Juzo off? He was stabbed after Marusa no Onna came out. He probably had a lot more good movies left in him. I didn't like Super no Onna or Marutai(?) no Onna (the police bodyguard one) but the Marusa series was good.

Kind of ironic that the main character gets stabbed by a Yakuza and then her husband/directior really gets beaten and slashed by real Yakuza.

Edit: I just wanted to check that with Wikipedia and I will go ahead and quote the part about the attack:

The yakuza, who prefer to think of themselves as something akin to modern-day samurai, were angered by their portrayal in Minbo as common thugs and bullies. Three knife-wielding members of the Goto-gumi yakuza gang attacked director Juzo Itami near his home in 1992, not long after the movie opened. Itami was beaten and his face slashed, and he nearly died as a result. The brutality of the attack, combined with Itami's popularity and the success of Minbo, led to a public outcry and a government crackdown against yakuza activity.

Yet another down-and-out J "celebrity" gets busted for buying drugs from a gaijin (in Roppongi no doubt)...

BTW - the above link is missing an "l" at the end:

And this just in - apparently she has left the country and is thought to be in the Philippines:

Someone familiar with the suspect indicated that they were surprised at how much weight she had gained recently (apparently her face and waist are double what they were when she was in the AV business).

Troubled Japanese TV personality seeks visa extension at Bureau of Immigration
The Manila Bulletin Newspaper Online | February 13, 2011, 3:56pm
MANILA, Philippines -
A well-known Japanese television actress who is being sought by authorities in her homeland for a string of legal troubles, including amphetamine possession, is currently in the Philippines and has applied for an extension of her stay here last February 8.
According to the Bureau of Immigration, 25-year-old Minako Komukai, Japanese actress and former gravure idol (a Japanese female model who primarily models on magazines, especially those marketed to men), arrived in Manila on January 21 from Tokyo.
Her extended visa is valid until March 21 and may be extended every two months for a total of 16 months unless cancelled upon a proper request from the Japanese government.
But the Philippine immigration bureau and the police said they have yet to receive any official request from Japanese authorities about Komukai...more...

It seems an ANN paparazzi reporter tracked Komukai down in Manila and followed her to a hotel (where she "disappeared").
At 0:56 they interview a Japanese housewife living in Manila and she says, "She's near here? I probably wouldn't know her if I met her...".
Komukai is not quite in the same league as Norippi etc. in terms of J celebrities on the lam.

It's too bad the Japanese media won't go to these lengths to expose corruption and fraud in goverment, police and industry.

Bravo! My thoughts exactly.

There are soooo many things in the world and (*gasp of disbelief*) this country that really need to be hauled out into the spotlight, yet only the most trivial issues get any serious media attention.

This addled bitch is eminently unimportant. A non-issue.

As I would quote one of Takechanpoo's conspiracy theories, the J media is the government, police, and industry. Where is that guy these days anyway?

I got in a serious argument with the gal the other day where she claims that I only follow geino tabloid news.

There is little merit in that argument but I told her.. hun, Japan news (including 95% of FG headline "news") consist only of geino news and I have no control of what garbage they spew at us.

Exactly what I said during the Noripi and Ebizo nonsense. We need a new expression to replace "tits on a boar": Useless as a Japanese news crew.

Apparently she insisted on being handcuffed . . .
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.
