Japanese, umeboshi, and traveling?

Postby Kanchou » Mon Nov 24, 2008 6:22 pm

Is there something about Japanese people taking umeboshi on trips (esp. international ones)?...

Or not?

Could be. I have spoken to Japanese who take green tea, instant miso, and masking tape. The tape is to mark off a "genkan" in the entry to their hotel room(s)...

Yes, Japanese people often take comfort food with them on trips. Instant miso and rice are the usual staples.

Yeah, that's why when I go on a trip, I take Hamburger Helper, Cheetos, and macaroni and cheese with me.

omiyage?

Postby ketchupkatsu » Tue Nov 25, 2008 9:04 am

Is the umeboshi for them? or is it omiyage?

I know of several people who bring the regional variation of umeboshi on trips as omiyage for people or family that they are visiting.
