Don't Insult A Hostess

A Kyodo news report (Japanese) says that a court has ruled that a man insulted a 21 year old hostess and must pay her 60,000 yen in compensation. The girl told the court that she had received sexually insulting phone calls from the male friend. He then visited her club and told her loudly that she was stupid, pathetic and an idiot. The hostess had claimed damages of 1.1 million yen but the court excluded the phone calls on the grounds that the man couldn't recall making them. It found in her favour, however, because the judge believed the incident in the club went beyond the usual conversation between a hostess and a customer and constituted unlawful verbal assault.
