Telegraph: Japanese PM Taro Aso offends doctors
Speaking in a meeting with prefectural governors to discuss a shortage of doctors, Mr. Aso said, "I understand that hospitals in rural areas are having trouble getting doctors. There are many who lack a fair degree of common sense. Their values are very different." Toshio Nakagawa, head of the Japan Medical Association, told a press conference later in the day, "It is incredible that Prime Minister Aso has made such a comment. We must verify what he meant and see what we should do"...Asked later to explain his comments about the doctors, Mr. Aso managed to give a less then fulsome apology, saying that he was sorry if he had offended and that he was sure that doctors with common sense would understand what he had meant. "Many of my friends are doctors but I have always felt that they were on a different wavelength to me," he told reporters...more...

Aso caught a lot of flak for his remarks and of course, apologized, but he is probably spot on as Catoneinutica can no doubt verify. The Doctors and their Associations in Japan can be a strange breed, residing in their own world....

Japanese PM sorry for comments on 'hobbling' elderly

TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- Japan's gaffe-prone prime minister is in trouble again -- this time for a remark criticizing the elderly as a tax burden for racking up medical expenses.
ImageJapanese Prime Minister Taro Aso has previously had to apologize for remarks opponents have said are inappropriate.

"They're hobbling around and constantly going to the doctor," Prime Minister Taro Aso was quoted as saying in a transcript of a Nov. 20 meeting of ministers on economic policies.
Aso also said the elderly should be faulted for not exercising enough.
The transcript was released overnight, drawing immediate criticism in the Japanese media and forcing an apology from the prime minister Thursday.

I doubt he's either flexible enough or hung enough to accomplish that, but he does seem quite able to deep throat his foot.
