I'm not sure these are bad wages for being an extra. I'm sure you FG members all have much higher income potential doing other things, but if you're just sitting around doing nothing, this doesn't sound too bad. By comparison in the U.S.:

Some jobs pay by the day and others pay by the hour. A days pay may range from $55-$100 or you may be paid an hourly wage perhaps ranging from $5-$7.

The 15,000 per day, even if you assume a long 16 hour day, would be about $156, or $9.75 per hour at current exchange rates. If the day's shorter, obviously the hourly wage is even higher. That's more than convenience stores pay to work the register, I think. And you don't have to shout "irrashaimase". The 2-day rate of 25,000 would come out to $16.27/hour. Tell me where else you can get paid that rate for a foreigner with no experience required and no interview.

Hell, I would sign up if my current employer ($6/hour) would let me have the time off! Irrashaimase!

i wouldn't be surprised if immigration snoops around the set, that'll be a hotbed of illegals. bet they'll find lots of people they can deport.

the nanny at the kenyan embassy was deported not long ago. the girl she looks (looked) after had gone home to kenya during the school holidays, so she had nothing to do. she went to work in a market just to keep herself busy, but then immigration came in and chucked her out of the country because she wasn't doing her specified job.

if the recent deportation at the embassy is anything to go by, if you're here on a working visa, you can only work for the company or organisation that has sponsored your visa. i wonder if this casting company has taken this into account.

When you consider that you can spend that much in decent restaurant on one meal. 4 hours or 5 hours teaching English is more profitable than 12 hours in a studio and paying your own transportation.

Also, I did the same sort of thing with NHK years ago and got paid 50,000 Yen for about 6 hours, it was speaking part though not just an extra in the background.

TFG, no doubt you're not the target of this ad then. I suspect they're looking for people who don't have limitless money-earning opportunities at higher wages, and would gladly take this way-higher-than-minimum-wage job. Given all the stories we've read like ex-Nova employees figuring out how to survive for weeks on the last 800 yen in their pocket, I have a hunch that even some English teachers may take up this offer.

Personally, my massage business is booming, and my host services are in high demand, so I will be passing up the offer.
