Recession Game Arcades

In accord with difficult economic circumstances, it appears that some game arcade crane machines are now offering daily necessities such as shampoo and washing powder as their prizes.

How pointless is that? 100 yen will get you some at a 100yen shop -- without the uncertainty that comes with a crane that only grips properly once every 20 credits!

You can say that the gaming industry is in a recession as well.

I guess they are trying to appeal 'responsible' gamblers now...while it may be now 'frivolous' to try to go after that pair of doko demo issyo chirping slippers, it is not for shampoo. Although I was always surprised in the larger, more popular arcades, it wasn't uncommon to find a few UFO machines that had snack foods, such as those puffed corn tube things or pocky despite the fact one could, for a few yen more, make a guaranteed successful transaction less than 20 meters away at store on the street vs. spending 100 yen for a slim chance to win one in the arcade.
