Louis Vuitton Grinds To A Halt In Japan

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Dec 17, 2008 11:52 am

Reuters: Louis Vuitton scraps planned Tokyo flagship store
LVMH, the world's biggest luxury goods group, has scrapped a planned Louis Vuitton flagship store in Tokyo's glitzy Ginza shopping district, as a spreading recession takes the luster off designer brands. LVMH has broken off talks over opening a store in a planned building in Ginza due for completion in 2010, an official for the developer, Hulic Co Ltd, said on Tuesday. An LVMH spokesman said it had withdrawn from the project but declined to explain the decision or comment on its plans. "We have not been able to reach an agreement with Hulic on a store development project in Ginza," said Yuri Matsueda of Burson-Marsteller, a public relations agent for Louis Vuitton Japan. Awash with cash from a global luxury boom, fashion and jewelry brands poured money into lavish retail spaces in upmarket Tokyo neighborhoods such as Ginza and Omotesando over the past two years. Earlier this year, media reports had talked of a 10-floor luxury Louis Vuitton emporium and restaurant to rival opulent new Armani and Bulgari towers in Ginza...While luxury goods firms gave optimistic forecasts for their trade as recently as May, banking on the super-rich to keep spending despite the economic slowdown, the mood has turned as the impact from the global financial crisis has grown...more...

If it is this ugly for LVMH, then it's even worse for the luxury brands who have less cachet.

Marxy would say that the era of European luxury brands is finally over in Japan.

I don't think that that would be a bad thing, to be honest.

That'd be a great thing IMO. I don't think it is over though, just on temporary hold.

The severe economic conditions will not stop the J-babes from wanting the latest bags from Prada, Fendi, Gucci, and Vuitton.

I wish they stopped this insane fad altogether. Ikemen's wallet is always bleeding around Christmas and Valentine's.

Isn't the main issue with LV is that they are not in fashion anymore. Not the credit crunch so much.

I think it is more due to the fact that EVERY j-girl that I know has at least one LV bag. Shit, I messed around with this chick that had a room full of LV, Coach, Prada, Gucci, and a few other bags that I had never herd of. Never saw her with the same bag twice. Always made me wonder how many "boyfriends" she had, thank god she only wanted sex. I think I was the back up if her night went bad, only seemed to call me between 11 and 2am asking to come over.

 Funny thing was, I never bought her a thing, not even a drink. Met her on the train, she lived near me so I invited her over for a cup of jo. Next thing I knew she was booty callin' me. She never asked for anything other than sex. I thought it was very strange.

3am and 6am??? guess you are less special than me. I was wondering where she went when I turned her down.

She'd come over to my place. I was her meshi-kun. My specialty: tube steak served between two buns, eventually slathered in a lightly salty cream sauce, sometimes with a tangy citrus taste if I had eaten pineapple recently.

Reminds me of some deeelicious dish I had at the "House of Blues" with a twist of culinary Cajun flavor. Yes, the meshi-kun.
