FGs mess up Kyoto again

Japanese addition of the Yomiuri has an article stating that foreign Tourists and amateur camera men are causing problems in Gion for the Maiko. It leads with the headline of bad manners by the FGs are causing problems for the Maiko. It notes that the citizens are starting a patrol and that the Kyoto Home Page has a warning and signs are to be posted saying words to the effect of "Don't follow the Maiko in the streets".

I did a quick perusal of the Kyoto HP, but didn't find it.

The article is here (in Japanese)......

First, it was Tsukiji and now.. Kyoto.

I will let Takechan do the usual Go Home Gaijin rant from here.

I'm perfectly fine with efforts in Japan to protect the national wa, and even think they're often too accomodating to western jack-offs. I just wish we could do the same in the U.S. For instance, maybe we could demand that Japanese visitors respect an individual's personal space and learn to form a proper fucking que. I'd say that would be a fair trade-off.

FGs following maiko around?!

Jeez ... what about the gaggles of pushy obasans with their keitai cameras? They have no consideration or manners whatsoever.

Edit: Just read the article, and they're saying the problem is "tourists, including foreign tourists," so it's not all FG bashing. They provide some figures too: 49,440,000 tourists last year, including 920,000 foreign tourists.

I guess that means the bad manners are overwhelmingly Japanese.

Oh, come on. I ride through gion all the time and have NEVER witnessed an example of what they're describing. I'm tempted to think this is just the result of a few people complaining about a minor issue. Gaijin or not, it's not like maiko are being chased through the streets everyday...

The mental image of maiko-san running through the streets of Gion pursued by a gang of camera-wielding obasan and a handful of FG is quite funny.
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

Rather than following them around, the city could mark their routes and the camera-toting FG's could all line up and take their photos as they parade by.
