Just because they said it happened, doesn't mean it did. It may have happened. And just who did this spontaneous translating? It's hearsay.

The military loves these self-aggrandizing propaganda stories. I've seen people get medals for making up things like this - photo ops, flags in background, music, pats on the back, tears - everyone gets a piece of the action.

Give me a fucking break!!!! Are you for real or you so jaded that you can't see that a simple act of kindness and hospitality by 2 guys that i know personally, can be misconstrued as another way for US, meaning me, sailors over here, to wave the flag and bring out the brass band???? 2 words. Go fuck yourself!!!!!:suspect:

This is what happens when you don't study in school, can't comprehend what you read, can't get or keep a job and are forced to join the navy to have a place to sleep indoors and eat.

By-the-way, exclamation points, like screaming, doesn't make you right. It just makes you annoying.

Let's see here.

Apparently someone hasn't listened to an American comedian in the past 15 years. I don't know who started it, but Denis Leary got really famous for his "2 words, 'Nuclear fucking weapons'" and or other 3 word phrases, comment.

But I guess you actually think someone can't count to 3 correctly because they're from America, is that it?

Oh, wait, you must be IN on the joke and making a further joke, right?

2 words. Humorless racist fucktard.

I think I found the Japanese headline:

US Sailors Stop to Save Japanese on Tracks before a Night of Raping
:p

Nah, kudos to those guys. There aren't too many locals that would've done the same thing..

By the same thing, are we referring to saving the local yokel, or a night of raping?

Troll? Racist?

If these guys did as the story claims they said they did, then it's honorable of them. My point is that there is no corroborating information about this story, and the Stars and Stripes does not do any fact checking. I never said it didn't happen as a statement of fact. What are you, dense?

Not everyone is American or watches America TV to get the "two words" reference. What are you, dense?

You must have served in the military along time to see this, 'cause it just don't happen for the lower ranks. Someone like John Kerry was high enough rank to write his own medals, or have his own written for him, but the guys with boots on the ground in the trenches can't do this and they are not allowed any leeway for medals without credible witnesses.

Lot a true heros have gone unrecognized in various wars because there was not an officer around to testify to their bravery, or deeds.

But you defame the men and women of the forces if you are claiming this is as rampant as you've "seen".

NOTE to Tsuru. I got laid....

Next time you see them, send our best wishes. It seems like they acted quickly and got the job done which might be one reason the local press hasn't picked it up. I seem to recall that some have died going to help people who have fallen on the tracks so it's good news that the didn't get in the headlines for more tragic reasons.

Sorry, I assumed that most people would tend to assume that the "2 words" line was a joke, rather than leaping to the retarded conclusion that someone can't count to 3 properly. [Thus humorless and retarded...or is "humourless" better for you?]

It's so silly I even gave you the "out" of assuming that your bigot comment was itself a joke. Apparently, it wasn't, was it?

Such an assumption that people can't count,[adding in that the Americans are probably also lying about the whole story anyway] is basically racist.

If you make fun of someone for being a Italian, it's racist.
Make fun of someone for being black, it's racist.
Make fun of someone for being Japanese, it's racist.
But make fun of someone for being American? That's just fine in the PC handbook, isn't it?

Sometimes it goes by skin color [colour]. Sometimes it goes by country.
The varying standard of what a "race" is, and how we substitute nationality for not-easily-defined races makes it hard to justify one's own bigotry as "merely" nationalist rather than racist, and if you want to defend yourself on that, go right ahead and start digging that hole.
Both types of discrimination are signs of small-mindedness.

I call it racist. But I suppose "prejudiced bigot" is more accurate.

[Long time non-noob on LJ and JP, long time reader of FG, just couldn't let the anti-American bigotry slide in this case and joined up.]

Now that Obama has been elected, aren't we Americans supposed to be getting only warm fuzzies from the rest of the world as the Age of Peace, Dignity and Rehabilitation of America's Image with the Rest of the World begins?
Or are you waiting until Jan 20 when it's official? ;)

Ditto. Although I'm a little more cynical as to why the local press has ignored the story (and that's where any concern about propaganda should be focused).

But, then again, maybe they were just worried that the story header might be confused with the low-birth-rate issue: "Japanese Saved by Foreign Seamen" ;)

I recall that other incident too, where at least one person died trying to help someone on the tracks. And you never know (especially in Japan) whether the guy on the tracks wants to be there, and may start fighting to stay - putting the rescuers at more risk.

Good job, I say.

Dude, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but Americans are NOT a 'race'. For what its worth, neither are Italians, or Japanese for that matter.

Assuming that everyone on these boards will be familiar with contemporary American comedians is blatantly ethnocentric and ignorant. We aren't. Some of us dont even want to be.

Finally, recycling Denis Leary's '2 worders', expecting everyone to think you are funny, and them calling them 'Humorless' when they dont is beyond comprehension.

So, to summerize,

1) Americans are not a 'race'.
2) Not everyone on this board about Japan knows, is interested, or even gives the slightest fuck about American contemporary culture
3) Your initial post wasn't funny
4) Your rant at me and others was funny - (we were laughing AT not WITH you)
5) You are now giving Minihux and AJ a run for their money at being voted the thickest idiot ever to sign up on these boards.

Have a great new year Seaman

One, in particular, was a Korean guy..

Hero Korean moves Japan
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/hero-korean-moves-japan-694524.html
.. Lee and a Japanese photographer, Shiro Sekine, 47, jumped on to the tracks after seeing Seiko Sakamoto, a 37-year-old plasterer, tumble off the platform. Sakamoto had been drinking. All three were run over and killed by the train..

Obama taking office is irrelevant. You are a fucking wack job.

How did you make the cognitive leap from my tongue-in-cheek ribbing about "go-fuck-yourself" being a phrase comprised of 3 words, to a tyrade of dribble about racism, anti-american bigotry, Obama, and America's standing in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Trust me, my comment about not being able to count is not the reason why America's moral standing in the world seems to have fallen. Three words for you there Seaman: George Walker Bush.

Ignorance is bliss, eh Seaman?

As a matter of fact, I was using the Dennis Leary mentality for my 2 words. As for the mainstream picking up the story? Not going to happen. It was a blip on the map for only US GAIJIN (us, not U.S.) too see someone helping another regardless of anything other then someone that needed help. As for all the other thing's? It's just water of a ducks back. Let's put it all to rest and just say kudos to my co-workers and move on! :smoking:
