Japanese companies are leaving London en masses because of the poor transport in the capital and the rising levels of crime according to a recent report in the Daily Telegraph.
The remarks by leading Japanese industrialists will concern many in the capital with many Japanese companies with major interests in London choosing German cities like Hamburg and Munich, because of cost and low crime.
Jean Shoji a spokesman for Panasonic told the Telegraph:
"In October 2006 our PR team covering Europe was moved to Wiesbaden. Geographically the UK is isolated from the rest of Europe and we wanted to improve our communications within the region including Britain".
The report highlights the continual problems with transport links in the south-east of England, with a presumption from Japanese companies that trains and plains (sic) in the UK run on time, and are shocked to see that this is not the case.
Macnico a company which was based in London moved to Munich is quoted in the report as saying:
"London is very expensive now, the Tube is convenient but often dirty and it can be dangerous. We also had concerns about increasing crime". . . more
I wonder if the German "plains" run on time?
