The Democratic Party of Japan on Wednesday called for the resignation of Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshitada Konoike following the exposure of a scandal involving a married woman. The call to resign was based on a Jan. 15 Shukan Shincho weekly magazine article that carried photos of the woman who spent the night at the dormitory for Diet members, where Konoike often resides. The woman reportedly is the wife of an acquaintance of Konoike. In the article, it was reported that after having a meal with the woman in central Tokyo on Jan. 6, they entered Konoike's dormitory separately, and she stayed for the night. The woman apparently has a card key that she used to enter and leave the dormitory, and it was reported that she also stayed overnight several times in December.
