There are acupuncture clinics where you can use your 'ho-ken-sho'. AFAIK for back ache problems, each treatment is about 2000Yen (plus another 2000Yen for first visit) and you might need to go for a few treatment depends on how serious your problem is. (Each treatment last about 30 minutes)

If you can use your hoken, I'd think it would be cheaper than 2000 yen. When I hurt my back surfing I went to a sports doctor type clinic. I paid about 1000 yen for the first visit and then only had to pay 200 yen per visit after that for shiatsu type massage, sometimes ice, and also the therapeutic ultrasound type thing where they hook you up to the thing that sends heat to specifc points. They fixed me back up and I was back in the water no time.

It has to be a place that's a normal doctor. I mean, it can't be a chiropractor because that isn't/wasn't covered by insurance, nor is an establishment specializing in massage. The place I went to was a sports injury type doctor near Tsunashima station on the Toyoko line between Yokohama and Tokyo. They are trained as physicians, not massage people but hey, it feels good and works just the same!

A friend of mine is actually going through this acupuncture treatment now and she is the one who told me about the cost which is about 2000 each visit. It is located at Nakameguro station by Tokyu Toyoko line. I can find out more info if anyone needs to know more about the clinic.
