Thanks for the history lesson on the etymology of the word "typhoon" most interesting. I always thought we borrowed it from asia.
So which history is correct?

Now we are getting somewhere. Sorry to be confrontational, but could you perhaps provide some reference? I'm well aware that dictionary editors make errors and/or future research changes the story. But many sources I've seen tell the story much like in the dictionary passage I quoted. You can forgive me for trusting them over an anonymous post reported to be from a professional linguist. Thanks.
