Hi,
I've just arrived in Kyoto, where I'll be teaching English (what else?..) for awhile. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go, things to do, etc., outside of the obvious tourist stuff? Or, on a practical note, where to find used furniture or electronics? Thanks!!

take a trip to den den town in Osaka for your electronics. Get them to takkyubin it back to kyoto for you. 
Den Den Town has the cheapest prices and widest selection, and it is about 40 minutes away by Train on the JR line :P
