T-34 Security Robot

Postby kurohinge1 » Mon Feb 02, 2009 6:23 pm

It seems that not much has changed since the 2004 "Secom's Robocop" thread.

Japanese companies have unveiled a security robot that can be operated remotely by mobile phone and launch a net to capture an intruder.

The prototype T-34, jointly developed by robot developer tmsuk Co Ltd and security company Alacom Co Ltd, looks like a small wheeled vehicle and is loaded with sensors that detect anything untoward in an office building.

It can move at a maximum speed of 10kmh under the command of a person who sees real-time images of where the robot is on the screen of his mobile phone . . . more

Just some observations:

  1. That actor looks like he had to work very hard to get "entangled" by that net]Most intruders can exceed 10 kmh - and cope with stairs;
  2. If the aim is to stop "anything untoward" going down in the office, maybe the robot just needs a video camera and a direct upload link to YouTube;and
  3. The earlier "T-34", although manually operated and made almost 70 years ago, had much more stopping power.

The T-34 was a pretty good tank for its time, at least compared to the M4 Sherman. Although, I realize, that this is not the point of the thread....

I'd just as well have a Tamagotchi defend my house.

It was the arguably the best tank of the war... mainly because of the slanted armor.

It had many endearing features:
  • Well-angled armour (as mentioned) - allowing some shells to bounce off]A low profile - making a smaller target;
  • Good speed on and off road;
  • Relative ease in manufacturing, meaning they could be pumped-out quickly (and the factory moved away from the front and set up further away relatively fast); and
  • They could operate in extreme cold - and apparently used this to their advantage to attack the German panzers in the mornings - when the panzers' oil was still frozen and they couldn't manoeuvre.

[/otaku mode] ;)
