Strange request

Postby Adhesive » Mon Feb 16, 2009 5:29 am

I didn't really know where to put this post, or even if it is allowable, but I'm looking for the voice navigation wav files of a specific car navigation unit.

I have the US version of the Pioneer Carrozzeria avic-mrz088 (avic-700bt). Since it's WinCE based, it is very customizable. I would like to swap out my terrible "Jason" USA voice for the one used in the Japanese unit.

All I need is someone with access to such a unit to pop in an SD card and copy the folder containing the wav files. I can provide very easy to follow instructions.

I apologize if this is breaking any forum guidelines, but I figure it should be OK since I already own the unit, and Pioneer doesn't provide any other method to change voices for its US customers.

While on the topic of WinCE/WindowsMobile based GPS navigation software, can anyone recommend any recommendations of any GPS software that can be loaded onto a WindowsMobile smart phone and has street maps for all of Japan?

I have both TomTom and Mapopolis loaded onto my WindowsMobile phone with maps of North America and Europe which works with my bluetooth GPS receiver, but I can't find any software with pre-loaded Japanese maps, which often happens when I am hiking.

Google Maps does work on my phone with my GPS, with Japanese street Maps, but it continuously downloads map sections online, which can be very expensive without an unlimited monthly data plan. And it does not work when my phone is out of range of a cell tower.

8GB and even 16GB micro-SD cards are not very expensive, so it would be cheaper to buy the GPS software pre-loaded with Japanese maps, then continue paying online data fees to SoftBank when using Google Maps.

Since the Pioneer Carrozzeria avic-mrz088 (avic-700bt) WinCE based, it might be able to load alternative GPS software as well.
