Body Found At Recycling Plant

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Mar 02, 2009 2:44 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Mainichi: Corpse found crushed inside bale of recycled paper
The body of an unidentified man was discovered at a recycling plant here Sunday afternoon, crushed inside a bale of old paper, police said. A worker at Komehiko Corp. called police after spotting the bale stained with blood after it came out of a paper press. Officers opened it up to find the corpse inside. They are trying to determine his identity and cause of death. The company collects wastepaper and cardboard from around the city. One worker said that several people had used the press since that morning, but that there hadn't been anyone leaving or entering the premises, and nothing else out of the ordinary. According to a local resident, paper and cardboard are thrown onto a conveyor belt, which then feeds the press. People can enter and leave the factory freely. Another local man said that he hadn't heard any screams or other strange noises.

Other news reports say the man has now been identified as a 69 year old who, until Saturday, worked part-time in a wholesale store.

Troubling.
Yomiuri: Recycling Death Investigation Begins

Authorities began surveying neighborhoods where paper was collected and delivered to a recycling facility where a corpse was found mixed inside paper on Sunday. Police have also mobilized local volunteer groups consisting of elderly women appalled at the mixing of moeru gomi with other paper waste. "How many times do we have to tell them, regular burnable trash gets picked up on Tuesday!", complained one participant.

Police are optimistic about finding the perpetrator, and they are particularly focusing on suspects found with PET bottles mixed with food waste.

No, not at all. I prefer to call this "news forecasting"; I think this news story will be in one of the dailies before long.
